Alexander Fraser Tytler, Lord Woodhouselee, was a distinguished Scottish advocate, judge, writer, and historian active during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Born in 1747, Tytler established a multifaceted career that spanned the legal system and higher education in Scotland, earning recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
As an academic, Tytler held the prestigious position of Professor of Universal History and of Greek and Roman Antiquities at the University of Edinburgh. In this role, he dedicated himself to the study and teaching of classical history and ancient civilizations. His work as a writer and historian, combined with his judicial duties, made him a notable intellectual figure of his time until his death in 1813.
