Charles L., Sir Young

Sir Charles Lawrence Young was a member of the Young baronetcy of Dominica, a British family distinguished by its history of colonial governance, military service, and diplomacy.

Sir Charles Lawrence Young was associated with the Young baronetcy of Dominica, a hereditary title created in the Baronetage of Great Britain on May 2, 1769. The baronetcy was originally established for William Young, who served as the Lieutenant-Governor of Dominica. Throughout its history, the family line was characterized by distinguished public, political, and military service across the British Empire.

Several of the baronets held significant administrative and political offices. The second Baronet served the Crown as the Governor of Tobago, while the fourth Baronet was active in domestic politics, sitting as a Member of Parliament representing Buckinghamshire.

The family also paid a heavy toll in military conflicts of the nineteenth century. During the Crimean War, the fifth Baronet lost his life at the Battle of Alma. In the same conflict, his younger brother, who succeeded him as the sixth Baronet, died during the Siege of Sevastopol. In later generations, the family's tradition of public service continued in the diplomatic arena, notably with the ninth Baronet, who served as the Envoy Extraordinary to both Guatemala and Yugoslavia.
