John Augustine Zahm, who also wrote under the pseudonym H. J. Mozans, was an American Holy Cross priest, author, scientist, and explorer. Born in New Lexington, Ohio, in 1851, Zahm dedicated his life to both religious service and scientific inquiry, bridging the gap between faith and exploration during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Throughout his career, Zahm was particularly noted for his extensive travels and research as an explorer of South America. His diverse pursuits as a writer and scientist allowed him to document his findings and share his observations of the natural world. He passed away in Munich, Germany, in 1921, leaving behind a legacy of exploration and scholarship.
